- 2019: Rod Glass Memorial Award (WPCA Most Improved Outrider)
2019 was a breakout season for Rory as won the first two show championships of his career at the Battle of the North behind Chanse Vigen and followed up that win by helping Chad Harden claim the title at the inaugural Century Downs World Finals. Overall, Rory improved 4 spots in the World Standings to finish up the year in 10th spot and was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider.
Rory made the first “official” ride of his career on the final day of the 2014 season at the Battle of the Rockies behind Jason Glass, just like his grandfather Lyle Armstrong had done in the early 1950’s making his debut ride behind Jason’s grandfather Ronnie Glass.
Rory is the son of two-time World Champion Outrider Randy Armstrong, grandson of chuckwagon legend Orville Strandquist and former outrider Lyle Armstrong, and cousin to former outrider Eddie Melville. Rory is a farmer and rancher in the off season, and enjoys hunting, hockey and working on trucks. He is single, and makes his home in Elnora, Alberta.
