- 2019: Rod Glass Memorial Award (WPCA Most Improved Outrider)
After having a a breakout season in 2019, Rory won the first major show of his career in 2021 at the Battle of the Foothills outriding for Chanse Vigen, and finished the year in seventh place in the World Standings - a career best. Rory was the recipient of the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider in 2019, and captured the first two show championships of his career in the same year.
Rory made the first "official" ride of his career on the final day of the 2014 season at the Battle of the Rockies behind Jason Glass, just like his grandfather Lyle Armstrong had done in the early 1950's making his debut ride behind Jason's grandfather Ronnie Glass.
Rory is the son of two-time World Champion Outrider Randy Armstrong, grandson of chuckwagon legend Orville Strandquist and former outrider Lyle Armstrong, and cousin to former outrider Eddie Melville. Rory is a farmer and rancher in the off season, and enjoys hunting, hockey and working on trucks. He is single, and makes his home in Elnora, Alberta.
