Personal Information
One of chuckwagon racing's exceptional drivers and horse trainers, Chad finished out the 2016 season with a victory at the Battle of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain House. 2016 saw Chad post 17 top ten runs, including a WPCA best 4 first place runs and 2 runs that also placed inside the top five. His horse "WILD" was named the 2016 Calgary Stampede Equine Outfit of Excellence Champion Right Leader, he qualified for the championship final heat at the Battle of the North, and had top ten overall finishes at four shows in 2016. Chad has won many of chuckwagon racing's marquis events including the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby and Edmonton's Chuckwagon Derby both in 2009, and the 2002 Ponoka Stampede. Chad received the prestigious WPCA Chuckwagon Person of the Year Award in 2006, won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Award for top rookie driver in 2001, has had two horses named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence, one horse named to the Calgary Stampede’s Equine Outfit of Excellence, and was the WPCA's Top Rookie Driver in 2000. He has twice been a semi-finalist at the Calgary Stampede, and in 2009 he became just the third driver to boast wins in both of Alberta’s major cities (Calgary and Edmonton) in a single year. Chad was the first chuckwagon driver to win association and Calgary Stampede top rookie honors in a single year, the first driver to win the top rookie driver at the Calgary Stampede and go on to win the GMC Rangeland Derby Championship. Chad has qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby every year since he started driving back in 2000. In the off-season Chad is a talent scout for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League. He is a third generation chuckwagon driver, whose grandfather Leroy Harden and father Robert Harden drove wagons for many years. He owns and operates Generation Chemicals Inc. - an oilfield chemical company - and is a big sports fan. Chad, his wife Dori have 4 children - Montana, Cheyenna, Dawson and Denver - and make their home near Mulhurst Bay, Alberta.
