- 2016: Rod Glass Memorial Award (Most Improved Outrider)
A late addition to the 2016 WPCA Pro Tour, Dayton Sutherland made his debut as a professional chuckwagon driver at the Battle of the North, replacing the officially retired Rae Croteau Jr., giving the Sutherland family a rare and unique distinction of having three generations of drivers competing in the same race meet. As an outrider, 2016 saw Dayton finish a career best 8th in the World Standings and receive the Rod Glass Memorial Award for Most Improved Outrider. Dayton teamed with his father Mark Sutherland to capture the Guy Weadick Days Championship in High River, helped Kirk Sutherland qualify for the championship final heat at the Battle of the North in Dawson Creek and John Walters qualify for the “Semi-Final Saturday” at the Calgary Stampede. A third generation chuckwagon competitor, Dayton is the grandson of chuckwagon legend Kelly Sutherland and the son of driver Mark Sutherland. He enjoys playing hockey, loves music, and anything with wheels such as quads and dirt bikes. Dayton is single and makes his home in DeWinton, Alberta.
