- 2013: WPCA Top Rookie Outrider
An aspiring young outrider, 2013 saw Tyson complete his first season on the WPCA Pro Tour and at season's end he was named the WPCA's Top Rookie Outrider. Tyson made his debut ride on the final night of the 2013 Grande Prairie Stompede behind Gary Gorst, and picked up Logan Gorst in Medicine Hat where he rode for Logan Gorst’s first ever day money run as a member of the WPCA. He rode the demonstration run all 10 nights of Stampede 101, and picked up official rides at the 2013 GMC Rangeland Derby behind Gary Gorst and Tim Haroldson. Despite a late season injury that kept him out of action for the final show at Rocky Mountain House, Tyson finished his rookie season in 14th place in the World Standings and hung on to win the Top Rookie Outrider buckle by a close 23 point margin. As longtime friends of the Gorst family, Tyson started his chuckwagon career as a barn hand working for driver Gary Gorst prior to starting to outride. Inspired by Gary's sons Logan and Dustin, Tyson decided to follow in their footsteps. Tyson is a high school student in the off season, is single, and enjoys hunting, riding horses and playing hockey around his hometown of Hughenden, Alberta.
