Personal Information
Timing is everything, and 2017 was well timed for Rory Gervais. After picking up the ride for Kurt Bensmiller at Guy Weadick Days, Rory was part of Bensmiller’s phenominal run that started with a victory at Guy Weadick Days, and escalated into chuckwagon racing’s first modern day “Grand Slam” when they captured the Ponoka Stampede, the Calgary Stampede Aggregate Title, the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby and the World Chuckwagon Championship. It was the first Ponoka Stampede and Calgary Stampede victories of Rory’s career, and the second time he won the Calgary Stampede Aggregate title, the first coming in 2011 with Neal Walgenbach. 2017 also saw Rory receive the Calgary Stampede Outstanding Outrider Award for the third consecutive year, and was the high point outrider at the Battle of the North. Rory started his outriding career in 2008 after attending outriding great Dale Gray's outriding school in the spring and began his rookie season soon after with the Laboucane family on the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) circuit. In just five years on the CPCA circuit, Rory twice was the CPCA Champion Outrider, and was the CPCA's High Point Rookie Outrider in 2008. A farmer and rancher in the off season, Rory also works for as an oilfield maintenance worker for Ken's Oilfield, and enjoys team roping, hunting, fishing and hockey in his spare time. Rory and his wife Jamie have a daughter - Fletcher -  and makes their home in Mervin, Saskatchewan.
