Century Downs To Host WPCA World Chuckwagon Racing Finals

(L-R): Champion Chuckwagon Drivers Kurt Bensmiller, Troy Dorchester, Jason Glass and Chad Fike were on hand for the announcement for the new WPCA World Chuckwagon Racing Finals hosted by Century Downs Race Track and Casino.

The World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) in cooperation with Century Downs Race Track and Casino (Century Downs) are pleased to confirm that we have entered into a multi-year agreement whereby Century Downs will be the official host of the WPCA World Chuckwagon Racing Finals.

This 5-day championship event will feature the world’s premiere chuckwagon drivers, outriders and horses competing for one of the richest prize money payouts in the sport including over $100,000.00 paid out on Championship Sunday.

“I’m excited and it’s a big step forward for the WPCA and our sport” said WPCA driver Dustin Gorst. Gorst was the Calgary Stampede’s top Rookie Driver in 2017.

Century Downs Race Track & Casino is located in Rocky View County, Alberta less than 1 mile north of the Calgary city limits.

Century Downs Race Track & Casino offers world class horse racing and entertainment with “A” level horse racing and 590 slot machines. With 550 stalls and a 5 1/2 Furlong Track, Century Downs has the facility to comfortably accommodate the horses and host a world class chuckwagon racing event.

“The WPCA is a world class organization and we are very excited to be a part of their circuit as host of this final.” commented Century Downs General Manager, Paul Ryneveld.

Chuckwagon racing fans will have the opportunity to see the horses up close and experience the action with high profile stars including the likes of Calgary Stampede and World Champions Jason Glass, Luke Tournier, Kirk Sutherland and Kurt Bensmiller.

4–time Calgary Stampede Champion and 3–time World Champion Kurt Bensmiller was quoted as saying “I am very excited about the 2019 race season with the addition of such a major show. I can’t wait to defend my world title at what promises to be a premiere and prestigious event on the WPCA Pro Tour.”

Century Downs has made major investments into Alberta’s horse racing industry and their support behind the WPCA will make a big difference in the sport of chuckwagon racing and the preservation of the western heritage.

The 2019 Century Downs WPCA World Finals will take place August 21 – August 25. The championship format will be announced at a later date.
