Another tremendous night of chuckwagon racing at the final stop of the 2018 WPCA Pro Tour at the Battle of the Rockies in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Kurt Bensmiller, in search of his third World Chuckwagon Championship, keeps increasing his lead with every run and sits atop the World Standings with a 92.5 point lead with 2 runs to go. The World Champion Chuckwagon Driver will be declared Sunday afternoon.
In just his third show as a professional chuckwagon driver, top money went to Chance Flad who piloted his Aspen Crossing outfit to a 1:15.19 from barrel 4 in the opening heat on the night. That run was just 5 one-hundredths of a second faster than Dayton Sutherland who had his single best career run placing second on the night. Codey McCurrach was third, Jordie Fike was fourth, while Logan Gorst and Luke Tournier split fifth and sixth on the night after being involved in a dead heat in heat number seven.
The day money run puts rookie driver Chance Flad atop the overall aggregate standings with a two-run total time of 2:30.98. That puts him 31 one-hundredths of a second in front of Dayton Sutherland who has now moved up into second place overall. Logan Gorst and Kurt Bensmiller sit 3rd and 4th respectively, with former Battle of the Rockies Champion John Walters in fifth place overall. The driver posting the best 4 day aggregate time will take home the 2018 Battle of the Rockies Championship.
