Kirk Sutherland Takes The Lead After 2 Nights At The Battle Of The North

Weather wise it was a little hazy and racetrack were again slow as night 2 of the Battle of the North at Mile “0” of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, British Columbia was run on Thursday evening. When the dust finally settled, it was Kirk Sutherland took the top time after a penalty free run of 1:16.84.

From barrel number 1 in the 9th heat, Sutherland’s Hitch'em Oilfield Hauling/Daler Pressure Services outfit was the top wagon of the night by a large 1.59 second margin over than Kurt Bensmiller who placed second for the second consecutive night. Jordie Fike placed third, Evan Salmond placed fourth, with Luke Tournier completing the top five fastest wagons on the night.

After two runs, and despite 4 seconds in penalties, Kirk Sutherland leads the overall aggregate standings with a combined time of 2:37.36. That’s 47 one-hundredths of a second better than Kurt Bensmiller, with Evan Salmond and Luke Tournier making out the top four. Day 1 winner Codey McCurrach is just a quarter of a second out of that ever so important fourth spot overall.

The top driver in the aggregate after Saturday night will get the use of a 2018 GMC Truck. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will go into the winner-take-all championship final heat where the winner will take home a big bonus cheque, and the 2018 Battle of the North Championship.
