It was a cloudy Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as the 2018 edition of the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races presented by Dakota Dunes Casino wrapped up during a Sunday matinee performance at Prairieland Park. When the times were tabulated, it was Kurt Bensmiller, driving the Versatile Energy Services Ltd. outfit, and along with outriders Rory Gervais and Keagan Thomas who won the championship after posting the best 4-day aggregate time of 5:11.55. It was the first time Kurt Bensmiller has won the Saskatoon Championship, and for rookie outrider Keagan Thomas, it was his first career win as an outrider.

Bensmiller’s four-day aggregate time was a very slim 11 one-hundredths of a second faster than last week’s Grande Prairie Stompede Champion Evan Salmond, with Logan Gorst, “The Hound” Codey McCurrach, and Jason Glass making out the top five overall after four runs.

On the afternoon, it was Chad Fike who won the William Joseph Communications fast time of the afternoon after posting a run of 1:17.07. That put him just 1 one-hundredth of a second faster than Rick Fraser who grabbed second place on the day, with Doug Irvine, Ross Knight and Evan Salmond making out the top five wagons on the day.

The WPCA Pro Tour now moves into Medicine Hat for the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede starting on Thursday, June 14, 2018 and running through to Sunday, June 17, 2018. Racing from the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede can be heard live starting at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:00pm Mountain time Thursday through Saturday with a matinee performance on Rural Radio on SiriusXM Channel 147 or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville, Alberta.
