It was a fantastic day 8 at the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby under hot temperatures and excellent racetrack conditions. The Calgary Stampede aggregate was on the line, and it was the last night for the drivers to try and get into the top eight for “Semi Final Saturday.” When the night wrapped up, Kurt Bensmiller, driving the West Industrial outfit, and along with outriders Shawn Calf Robe and Rory Gervais, won the Richard Cosgrave Memorial Trophy - symbolic of the Calgary Stampede Aggregate Championship after posting the best 7 day aggregate time of 8:36.03. It’s the second time in three years that Bensmiller has won the Calgary Aggregate title.
In addition to Kurt Bensmiller, Logan Gorst, Obrey Motowylo, Chad Harden, Chanse Vigen, Troy Dorchester, Kirk Sutherland and Evan Salmond complete the top eight and will compete in “Semi Final Saturday”. Twelve-time Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Champion Kelly Sutherland whhomis competing in his final GMC Rangeland Derby just missed the top eight, placing 9th overall, and Vern Nolin completed the top ten overall.
As far as the day results are concerned, top time went John Walters, driving the lululemon outfit, with a run of 1:11.42, followed by Colt Cosgrave who grabbed second place for the second consecutive night. Mark Sutherland was third, Kris Molle fourth, with Layne MacGillivray completing the top five.
