Vern Nolin - Big Run Off Barrel Number 1 On Night 6 In Calgary

Day 6 of the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby was run on a warm dry night, but racetrack conditions were slightly slower in comparison to the opening three days. On the night, Vern Nolin, driving the Dentons Canada LLP outfit, ran the fast time on the night with a 1:13.50.
Coming off barrel number 1 in heat number 6, Nolin won the day money by three-tenth of a second over Obrey Motowylo, with Logan Gorst, Kelly Sutherland and Mark Sutherland making up the top five times on the night.
Chanse Vigen still leads the overall aggregate with a 5 run aggregate time of 6:09.29. Kurt Bensmiller is right behind him with Logan Gorst, Obrey Motowylo, Chad Harden, Evan Salmond, Troy Dorchester and Kirk Sutherland all in the hunt for the top eight after five runs. Kelly Sutherland, who is competing in his final GMC Rangeland Derby sits ninth and rookie driver Dustin Gorst sits in 10th place overall. Colt Cosgrave and John Walters, who were both sitting in the top eight at the start of the day, each hit barrels and will have a tough road with two runs to go to qualify for Semi-Final Saturday.
The Richard Cosgrave Memorial Trophy, symbolic of the Calgary Stampede aggregate winner will be declared after 8 nights on Friday, July 14, and the top 8 in the aggregate on that day will go into “Semi Final Saturday.” The top 4 times from the two semi-final heats on semi on Saturday on July 15 will go into the winner-take-all championship final heat. The winner of the final heat will be declared the 2017 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Champion.
