A 2nd generation chuckwagon driver and the son of 2014 World Champion Kirk Sutherland, 2015 saw Mitch enter the winners circle for the second time in his five year career on the WPCA Pro Tour when he captured the Guy Weadick Days in High River – a show his father won 34 years earlier. 2015 saw Mitch post 16 top ten runs, which include 3 day money runs and 5 runs that cracked the top five. In addition to the win at Guy Weadick Days, a fifth place overall aggregate finish at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship were his best of the season. Mitch won the 2011 Richard Cosgrave Memorial Badlands Dinosaur Derby en route to being named the 2011 WPCA Top Rookie Driver, and joining Rick Fraser and Jerry Bremner as the only drivers in WPCA history to win a show championship and the Top Rookie Driver buckle in the same year. He started his career in on the amateur Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) circuit in 2004 and was the overall WCA champion in back to back years in 2008 and 2009. He won twelve WCA show championships during his tenure with the WCA. Prior to driving chuckwagons Mitch played football for the University of Alberta Golden Bears where he received All Canadian Honors. He was drafted in 2002 by the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League and went on to attend training camp with the Alouettes later that year.
