Personal Information
One of chuckwagon racing’s immensely talented chuckwagon drivers and outriders, 2017 saw Chanse make his first trip to the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby’s championship final. His horse “SLICK" was named Champion Left Wheeler on both the Calgary Stampede and WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence, and while acting as a replacement driver for his injured father Mike, Chanse was the aggregate winner and qualified for a second championship final at the Battle of the North. Overall, the 2017 season saw Chanse post 24 top ten runs, including three day money runs and 17 runs that also cracked the top five. In addition to qualifying for two championship final heats, top ten overall aggregate finishes at The Ashley Richards Memorial, The Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and the Strathmore Stampede were his best of the season. In 2013 Chanse won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Memorial Award for Top Rookie Driver when he qualified for "Semi-Final Saturday," and his 3 place overall aggregate finish at the GMC Rangeland Derby is one of the best ever by a rookie driver. That same year his horse "CANDY" was named the Calgary Stampede Equine Outfit of Excellence Champion Right Wheeler. 2012 Chanse won the WPCA Top Rookie Driver award, had a horse named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence, and become just the fifth driver in WPCA history to qualify for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in his rookie year. Chanse is a record five-time World Champion outrider, was the WPCA’s Top Rookie Outrider in 2001, received the Rod Glass Memorial Award for the WPCA’s Most Improved Outrider in 2002, has and outrode for four Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfits, five Calgary Stampede Aggregate winners, and four Ponoka Stampede winners. Chanse is a third generation World Champion whose father is four-time World Champion Outrider and current driver Mike Vigen, and his grandfather was chuckwagon legend Ralph Vigen who was a five-time World and three-time Calgary Stampede Champion. He is a cousin to former driver Rae Croteau Jr., works as a farrier and enjoys hockey, basketball, and golf in the off season. Chance and his fiancée Rochelle make their home in Okotoks, Alberta.
