Personal Information
A veteran driver who has made a life out of working with thoroughbreds, Barry won the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2012 for taking just a single penalty second all season long, is a two-time champion of the Colonial Days Fair in Lloydminster, and has qualified for 7 career winner-take-all championship final heats. He participated in the “Mini-Chuckwagon” races during the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Calgary in 2011, won the DC Energy Services Clean Drive Award at the 2007 Badlands Dinosaur Derby in Drumheller and the DC Energy Services Clean Drive Award at the 2006 Ponoka Stampede. Barry had his career best Calgary Stampede in 2013, placing 11th overall in the aggregate standings, and re-qualified for the 2014 GMC Rangeland Derby as a result of his impressive performance. A sixth place run at the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races, and a pair of 8th place runs at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and the Battle of the North were Barry's best of 2014. Prior to driving chuckwagons, Barry spent twenty-two years as a thoroughbred trainer at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona, winning over 400 races and over 1.5 million in purses. Barry is the nephew of former World and 3-time Calgary Stampede champion Dave Lewis, and cousin to fellow competitor Rick Fraser. Barry lists hockey, horse racing and ski-dooing amongst his interests. Barry has 2 children - Justin and Cody, and makes his home in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
