Personal Information
With an extraordinary ability and arguably the most decorated chuckwagon champion of all time, Kelly is a twelve-time Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby champion, a twelve-time World Champion Chuckwagon Driver, a six-time Calgary Stampede Aggregate winner, and an eight time Ponoka Stampede champion. Over his celebrated career Kelly has won multiple titles in nearly every major chuckwagon event including six North American Chuckwagon Championships, five Battle of the North championships, nine Big M Stampedes, and has twice won the Cheyenne Frontier Days among many, many others. He has competed in a record 76 championship final heats and has won 25 of them. 2015 saw Kelly post 19 top ten runs including 5 runs that cracked the top five. 2015 also saw Kelly make his unprecedented 21st trip the GMC Rangeland Derby’s championship final heat. At the Calgary Stampede’s Centennial Celebration in 2012, Kelly’s tarp sold for a record high price at the Calgary Stampede and he received the Calgary Stampede’s prestigious Guy Weadick Award. Kelly received the Calgary Stampede's Safe Drive Award for the Least Penalized Driver in 2002, and outrode for Ralph Vigen’s 1972 Calgary Stampede Championship outfit. He has had four horses named to the WPCA's Equine Outfit of Excellence and was named the WPCA's Chuckwagon Person of the Year in 1994. Kelly hosted the royal couple during their visit to the 2011 Calgary Stampede, and was the first torchbearer of day 8 of the Olympic Torch Relay for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver when the Olympic Torch entered Alberta. Kelly and his wife Debbie have three children - Tara, Mark, and Mandi and 6 grandchildren.
