Personal Information
A veteran chuckwagon driver with a distinguished career record, 2013 saw Kirk successfully defend his title at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship, he received the Calgary Stampede Safety Award for Least Penalized Driver, and for the second consecutive year he had a horse named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence. He posted 23 top ten runs, which includes 3 first place runs and 12 runs that placed inside the top five. He qualified for two winner–take–all championship final heats at the Calgary Stampede and at the Battle of the North. He placed inside the top ten overall at six of nine show championships, and was runner-up to the World Chuckwagon Championship for the second consecutive year. He broke his own track record at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and holds the track record at the Battle of the North as well. In 2012 Kirk had an incredible streak of what is believed to be a record eight consecutive day monies by the same four horses, and two of those horses were recognized with Equine Outfit of Excellence awards - one at the Calgary Stampede and one on the WPCA Pro Tour. Kirk has qualified for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all final four times, was the WPCA Most Improved Outfit award winner in 1984, and along with his brother Kelly are the only brother combination to qualify for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all final in the same year - a feat that has happened three times. Kirk and his wife Kathy have four children - fellow chuckwagon driver Mitch, Traci, Misty, and Ashley – and make their home in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
