Personal Information
A member of one of chuckwagon racing’s most prominent racing families, Kirk won arguably the most prestigious show of his career in 2015 when he captured the Ponoka Stampede. He qualified for two championship final heats at the Ponoka Stampede and the Battle of the North, and his horse "CHIEF" was named the WPCA Equine Outfit of Excellence Champion Right Leader for the second consecutive year. 2015 saw Kirk post 21 top ten runs including 3 day money runs and 11 runs that cracked the top five. Kirk was the 2014 World Champion Chuckwagon Driver, was the reserve world champion three out of the last four years, and his 7 show victories in that time period leads all WPCA drivers. He has had 6 horses named to either the WPCA or Calgary Stampede Equine Outfit of Excellence, was the 2014 GMC Sierra Cup series winner and is the track record holder at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and the Battle of the North. In 2012 Kirk had an incredible streak of what is believed to be a record eight consecutive day monies by the same four horses. Kirk has qualified for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby’s championship final heat four times, won the Calgary Stampede’s Safe Drive Award for Least Penalized Driver in 2013, and was the WPCA Most Improved Outfit award winner in 1984. Along with his brother Kelly are the only brother combination to qualify for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s winner–take–all final in the same year - a feat that has happened three times. Kirk and his wife Kathy have four children - fellow chuckwagon driver Mitch, Traci, Misty, and Ashley – and make their home in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
